Two Budapest Databricks Event in One Day

As an official Databricks partner, we’ve been working with this technology for several years. In that time, we’ve learned a lot and helped our customers extract real value from their data. We felt it was time to share our experience with others who believe in data-driven thinking and innovation — and we did just that with two events in one day.

Databricks is one of the hottest topics in the data world right now. Whether you’re working with it daily or are just Databricks-curious, staying up to date is key. As one of the leading Hungarian Databricks partners with a highly experienced team, we decided to organize not one, but two Databricks-focused events in Budapest on April 1st.

Morning Insights: Databricks Business Brunch

The day began with our Databricks Business Brunch, designed specifically for business users, decision makers, and data leaders—CTOs, CDOs, data managers, and analytics experts. Guests had the chance to hear from our specialists and clients about how they are using Databricks in real-life scenarios and what’s coming next from the platform.

Key topics included:

  • Real-world migration journeys from traditional data platforms to Databricks
  • Best practices and lessons learned from both Hungarian and international clients
  • Emerging features, AI capabilities, and SAP-on-Databricks integration
  • Organizational change strategies for building data-driven companies

We were fortunate to host an outstanding lineup of speakers. Gergely Csom, Abylon’s CTO, kicked off the morning by putting recent industry trends into context. Zara Thomas, Senior Solutions Architect at Databricks, gave a clear and engaging overview of where the platform is headed. Uma Sivakumar, who leads global analytics for finance at Diageo, emphasized the importance of mindset and structure in becoming truly data-driven. Zénó Horváth, Director of Information Technology at BKK, showcased how they’re tackling complex big data challenges using Databricks solutions implemented by Abylon.

Evening Action: Budapest Databricks Meetup

After a short break, the day continued with the very first official event of the newly formed Budapest Databricks Meetup Group—this time focused on developers, engineers, and tech-savvy data professionals. Surprisingly (and happily), more than 50 people showed up for the evening session. We were thrilled to see the meetup fully booked!

Zara Thomas returned to the stage to explore the possibilities of the technology from a technical perspective, while Gergely Csom shared practical tips and insights for those working hands-on with the platform. Even though the event ran late into the evening, many attendees stayed to chat, network, and keep the conversation going. It was a clear sign that this community is just getting started.

If you’re passionate about data, innovation and community, don’t miss out! Join the Budapest Databricks Meetup Group and be part of the conversation!

A huge thanks to the Abylon organizing team, our speakers, our guests and of course Databricks for their support.

The success and enthusiasm around both events confirmed one thing: this wasn’t a one-off. We plan to have similar Databricks events in the near future.
